Old comics! (Pt. 2)

I shared the first part of this old skool comic project from my early twenties in a blog post yesterday.

Just as an aside, I realise I didn't actually share a link to the animation I did while working for Quickdraw. It's called 'Affinity' and reflected my journey of learning to identify my sexual orientation how I wanted to, rather than how I felt other people expected me to for their comfort or clarification. It was (maybe still is?) used by the Calgary Police Service as part of their Hate Crimes education programme in schools AND it opened the premier of 'Milk' in Calgary! Which was pretty cool.

Also, this second bit of the comic has swearing. Just, so you know. Cute animals, not child friendly.

There was meant to be a third story but I've long forgotten what the conversation/plot/story arch was meant to be. These are the last two panels I got around to...I remember being really chuffed about how the glasses worked out but I think the shots I wanted were too ambitious for my skill level at the time and that's ultimately why I abandoned the project.

Old comics! (Pt. 1)

In 2008 I was part of the Youth Animation Project with the Quickdraw Animation Society in Calgary, Alberta. While working on my animation I also spent a lot of time doing character drawings.

I'd dabbled in comics before, mostly with a little autobiographical comic journaling, but I decided to work on a proper comic. I recall that my intention was to get the thing published properly at some point but to be honest my enthusiasm for the project just fizzled out. Mostly due to my decision to move to the UK.

Anyhoo, I've been going through old sketchbooks, ripping out chunks to recycle and organising my stuff a bit better. I came across this abandoned project and thought 'What the Hey! May as well scan it, as it, and post it to my blog because, well, why not?'

It's rough. It's not my best work. It's incomplete. But I'm fond of it.

Enjoy!
