The words for this piece came to me while I was out walking. When something pithy like this pops into my head I immediately write it down and then take some time to think about it.

To me this summarises a lot of what Buddhism has taught me about appreciating the moment, letting go and dropping the storyline. It's so easy for us to write off an entire day as 'bad' because of one thing that might not be comfortable or enjoyable for us. The entire day could have been just fine, no major issues one way or another, but then someone cuts us off when we're driving home or we have a minor argument with our partner or kid and suddenly the entire day is bad.

We also limit ourselves with this idea that just because something has always been it always will be. Personally I went through this with regards to the depression and anxiety I used to experience. I felt like, because I was in such a pattern of both, they had to be part of my life for ever more. I was prepared for them to come up, to always be there in certain situations.

But life is rich and every moment is new, even if there might be similarities to what came before. This very moment has never happened before and will never happen again. And a single moment shouldn't define our entire life and experience.

The imagery I chose for this one comes from classic Thangka artwork. This is symbolic of the Bodhisattva Manjushri. I'm a fangirl of Manjushri and his wisdom teachings. He's a star player in the Heart Sutra, which blows my mind every time I hear it. It's all about emptiness and really, that's what this piece is about.

All things arise due to causes and conditions. A single moment cannot be captured and nothing is solid.
