In July 2015 I went to Boulder, CO to attend the Nyingma Summer Seminar. I was sitting there following along with the chants, most of which were new to me, when one of the lines in particular struck me. The line referred to the liberated state of Buddha. Not that he had transcended suffering, but that he showed us the path to liberation from suffering.

For me, this single line of chanting struck a chord with a fundamental barrier that I used to face: that I felt that I could or should transcend my mind or experience in order to feel more comfortable with my world and life. I think this is a common misunderstanding of Buddhist teachings, in the West anyhow.

For me this piece is pin-pointing the realisation that the mind is not to be transcended, that it is with the mind that we can learn to let go and in letting go, we can be liberated from samsara.
