The Hanged Man card in Tarot represents being true to ones self and the choices we make based on the awareness we have of what we require in life. It’s a card about being in limbo.
I think it’s extremely apt for it to be the first Tarot card of the year I moved to London.
I chose a fruit bat for the animal because of its hanging ability, but also because the card commonly has remnants of fruit, like the bones of grapes. I chose an apple because I wanted to have a bright, eye catching element to the piece. The fruit is a direct reference to the garden of Eden and how some of us will bite into something we are not yet prepared for. To combat that the sun and shield represent the illumination one feels when they know how to meet their own needs. It’s on a shield to represent the need to guard ones self.
