Love 24X36" Acrylic on Canvas Painting

Original has been sold. High gloss photo print and canvas reproductions available in limited quantities.
In the Tarot deck the sixth card is usually called ‘The Lovers’ but, halfway through painting this one, I found some history on the original design. Originally it was just called ‘love’, which I think still suits it best. This card isn’t about two people in a relationship. This card is about passion. It’s about a passion for life, knowing what you love and going after it. It can be love for another person, but it can also be love for a place, a career, a memory -anything. Pure, genuine, true love.
I’ve chosen playful dolphins as the representation for this. The simple background and lack of usual symbols found in The Lovers card is testimony to the original meaning of the card and represents the simplistic way in which love is addressed in Buddhism. Love is not about clinging or attachment. Love is about acceptance and being.
